Walking Wednesday August 27, 2025

I have been getting my steps in, but they’re all running round steps not intentional walk steps. I always seem to have this issue every time my schedule changes- which it seems to do every 2 months or so. I’ll figure it out eventually!

I’m between audiobooks and mostly listening to podcasts at the moment. I have a few more books on my list for August so eventually I will settle on one.

Walking Wednesday August 20, 2025

A few pics from home and a few pics from vacation. I’m still in limbo here. I can pack in about 20 minutes but it takes me 2 weeks minimum to unpack from even the shortest of trips.

I started listening to Cujo by Stephen King this week. It’s an odd listen because the narrator sounds a lot like the narrator from the Little House on the Prairie books. I need to research and see if it actually is.

Walking Wednesday June 4, 2025

Looking at the weather report this may be the last tolerable week before the humidity of summer starts. I’ve been taking advantage!

I got the new Stephen King book from my library so I had to jump on that. There’s a long like of people waiting behind me! I wasn’t exactly in the mood since I just finished a Stephen King book, but the holds list at the library is the boss!

Walking Wednesday May 7, 2025

I’m back from what hopefully was my last trip for a while. I haven’t laughed as much as I did with my brothers and parents this weekend in a long time. I’m so glad I went, but boy am I ready to get back into a routine. I got a few walks in- we went to the beach, shopping where I saw the fanciest Barnes and Noble I’ve ever seen, and a long tour around the best bookstore ever, The Book Barn.

This week while I wander I’m listening to The Parrot and the Igloo by David Lipsky. It’s sobering.

Walking Wednesday April 30, 2025

Since I got back from vacation my steps counts have been higher than they have in a long time, but I haven’t been taking many pictures. So I’m going back to more vacation pictures this week.

I just started listening to The Cautious Traveller’s Guide To The Wastelands by Sarah Brooks. This was on my summer reading list last summer!

Walking Wednesday April 12, 2025

It’s been cool here and it seems to be having a good effect on the longevity of these blooms. I can’t stop walking under these trees and taking pictures. I’m not looking forward to the heat and humidity this summer, so every day I get to avoid taking out my summer clothes is a good day in my mind.

Right now I’m listening to The Man in the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie. I joined a challenge to read one Christie book a month in order. They’re usually pretty good for walking and listening.

Walking Wednesday April 9, 2025

Winter is back this week and next, but the flowers are hanging in there so we’ll just pretend it’s still spring.

I’ve been listening to a fascinating book while I walk - The Sisterhood by Liza Mundy. It’s about women in the CIA. I’d tell you more but then I’d have to kill you, so you’ll have to read it yourself.

Walking Wednesday April 2, 2025

It’s cherry blossom time! It makes finding the motivation to walk easy. The blooms were late this year due to a cold winter, but that makes the spectacle all the better.

I’ve been listening to Ten Birds That Changed The World by Stephen Moss. It’s timely given the chirping going on around me when I walk.

Walking Wednesday March 19, 2025

March 19th already! How did that happen? I love this time of year when the sun comes out and billions of flowers just appear where there was just brown dirt the day before. I’m enjoying it before summer comes and it feels like walking through soup!

This week’s audiobook is Ten Birds That Changed The World by Stephen Moss. This is the book that finally got me to upgrade to Everand Premium so I hope it’s worth it!

Walking Wednesday March 12, 2025

From ice to flowers. Welcome to March! Time is flying like usual but it’s lighter out at night when I go for my walks. Hooray!

I’m about to start Fire Weather by John Vaillant. A tough topic, but it’s important to know about. This is one of the 52 non-fiction books I want to read this year. I think it’s #4 from my list so I better get going!

Walking Wednesday February 12, 2025

It’s getting a little lighter and a little closer to spring so I’m walking more in the daylight now. This week I treated myself to 2 hours PTO at the zoo to see the new pandas. These are new DC residents I can get behind!

For my audiobook listening I’m about to start Entitlement by Rumaan Alam. I have high hopes, but the reviews have not been great. We’ll see.

Walking Wednesday January 29,2025

It’s a hard time of year to get outside during the day. Add to that the sub freezing weather, and walking has not been great. I wonder if there’s a way to listen to audiobooks while swimming indoors.

I started listening to The Beastie Boys Book. It’s fun!

Walking Wednesday January 22, 2025

It’s still definitely winter, but it’s really not long until I start to see crocuses and snowdrops starting to poke up. Early spring after a short winter is a great advantage to living in Virginia!

I’m between books right now, but looking for something from the Tournament of Books short list. I want to read them all before March.

Happy Walking!

Walking Wednesday January 8, 2025

Whew, it’s definitely winter walking weather out there. With no holiday decorations to look at I’ve been changing my routes so that I can find new things. Pretty soon I’ll be seeing signs of spring- or at least that’s what I tell myself!

I’m listening to The Mysterious Affair at Styles for a buddy read. The discussion isn’t until the end of the month, but the library wants it back sooner than that.

Walking Wednesday December 4, 2024

Another week of walking mostly in the dark and cold. I had a goal of getting outside in daylight every day in November, but that goal didn’t go so well. I’m going to try again in December because it does really help to get a bit of the weak vitamin D this time of year.

I’m listening to an old favorite this week- Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery.

Walking Wednesday November 20, 2024

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done one of these. Not because I haven’t been walking, but because it’s dark outside when I do! This is not my favorite time of year, but I keep looking for bits of light and joy the best I can.

I’ve been listening to Moon of the Turning Leaves by Waubgeshig Rice. The narrator is excellent, and I’m enjoying the book very much.
